This lady is seriously troubled. This "mean mom," as I affectionately call her was mean AGAIN today!
As she dropped her daughter off today, she handed her a baggie of envelopes. The little girl brought them up to me and said, "My mommy said that you have to pass these out." As I look at them, I realize that they are birthday party invitations for only 6 of the 12 girls in my class.
Now, previously stated in my class information, as well as personally by myself at Curriculum Night, if parents are only inviting certain children to a party (which I completely understand) they were asked to please address the invitations and send them home rather than passing them out in front of the other children. (P.S. All the parents were given a beautifully typed class directory lovingly typed on unpaid time by my assistant just for this reason). To me, this is common sense. How would I feel if I was waiting to be picked up by my mom and all the little girls around me were getting invitations and I didn't get one?!
So I know I have to talk to the mom about this and RE-EXPLAIN my policy. When I am nervous, I get all red on my chest so it's agood thing that I wore a turtleneck today. My tummy also gets REALLY rumbly when I am nervous. So here I am red and rumbly waiting for THE mom to show up.
As she approaches I say, "Mean Mom, I didn't get a chance to pass out the invitations today and I noticed that only a few of the children were invited. If you are only going to invite a few of the girls, I need you to personally send them invitations so we don't hurt anyone's feelings."
She glares at me while shouting (she says she's firm) that then all the envelopes are ruined and why couldn't I have just passed them out like she told me to? She then proceeds to hand out the invitations even though I just ASKED HER NOT TO.
So I said, "Mean Mom, maybe you mis- understood, but my policy is that you will need to send those if you are not inviting everyone."
To which she walked away. Muttering. And looking back to glare at me.
Not that too many people read this blog, but if any of you have ideas, suggestions, or comments, I would welcome them. I will not walk away. Or mutter mean words. Or glare at you. I promise!
Otherwise, I will have to overdose myself on Tylenol PM and that's never as good as it sounds!!!
